Green Procurement, Manufacturing, Warehousing and Logistics: Which Practice Improves Environmental Performance Most in Delhi-NCR Auto MSMEs?

Abstract

Small and medium companies that make automobile parts in Delhi-NCR are under growing pressure to work in a cleaner way. This study checks how four green supply chain practices, that is green procurement, green manufacturing, green warehousing, and green logistics, affect the environmental performance of these companies. Data was collected from 100 MSME automobile component manufacturers in Delhi-NCR. In every company, four managers filled the survey, one each from procurement, manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics. So in total 400 managers gave responses, and the answers were combined at the company level. The data was analysed in SPSS using descriptive statistics, correlation, regression, and one-way ANOVA. The results show that the four green practices together explain 73.5% of the change in environmental performance (R² = 0.735, F(4, 95) = 65.97, p < 0.001). All four practices have a positive and significant effect. Green manufacturing (β = 0.269), green logistics (β = 0.265), and green warehousing (β = 0.262) contribute almost equally, while green procurement (β = 0.208) contributes the least. The study also found that companies with ISO 14001 certification perform much better on the environment than companies without it (F(1, 98) = 13.05, p < 0.001). The paper gives simple suggestions for company managers and for policy makers in Delhi-NCR.
